Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety Doesn't Have to Run Your Life

Trauma-informed anxiety therapy that works with your nervous system, not against it.

Anxiety can feel overwhelming, all-consuming, and completely out of your control. You might be stuck in constant worry, paralyzed by what-if scenarios, or triggered by situations you know logically are safe. Your body is stuck in survival mode, and your mind won’t stop racing.

But here’s what’s true: anxiety is highly treatable. And with the right approach—one that addresses your nervous system, not just your thoughts—you can move from being controlled by anxiety to managing it skillfully.

At Center of Balance Counseling, I specialize in helping adults across Oregon, Washington, Georgia, New Jersey, and Florida find freedom from anxiety using evidence-based, trauma-informed therapy. Whether you’re dealing with generalized anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, OCD, or anxiety rooted in past trauma, you don’t have to white-knuckle your way through this alone.

Am I Anxious?

If you have to ask, the answer is probably a yes. Here are some signs that you should take it seriously and seek help:

Everyone experiences some level of anxiety. The good news? You aren’t alone, and with online anxiety treatment, it’s possible to manage and greatly reduce the symptoms of anxiety disorders.

There are many kinds of anxiety...

Anxiety isn’t one-size-fits-all. There are many manifestations of anxiety, the most common of which I’ll describe below. If any of the following sounds like you, know you’re not alone and help is just a phone call away. In fact, anxiety disorders are the most common mental health condition in the United States, affecting more than 40 million adults every year.

General Anxiety Disorder

If you’re in a constant state of worry—about your health, finances, relationships, or the future—you may have GAD. Your mind feels like it’s always looking for threats, and you can’t seem to turn off the “what-ifs.”

With therapy, you’ll learn to identify the underlying fears driving your anxiety, calm your nervous system, and develop a different relationship with worry.

Panic Disorder

Do you have frequent panic attacks? These include physical symptoms such as chest pains, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and dizziness. If so, you may have panic disorder.

This is a very physical manifestation of anxiety. Panic disorder can be a scary experience, and it is completely treatable. With therapy, the symptoms of panic disorder can be greatly reduced.

Social Anxiety

Do you feel like it’s hard to interact with other people in certain situations? Do you feel panicked at the thought of having to go out sometimes? It’s possible that you may suffer from social anxiety.

Symptoms of social anxiety can include:

Social anxiety can keep you from living the life you want to live. It can stop you from connecting with others, trying new things, and fulfilling your goals and dreams. But it doesn’t have to dictate or limit how you live your life.

Therapy for social anxiety can help you navigate social settings in a way that feels safe and comfortable. With the proper support, you can become a more confident person.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

OCD can lead to compulsive actions and unmanageable thoughts. It can cause interruptions to daily living and make life complicated. It can bring feelings of shame and cause you to withdraw from life.

However, with the right treatment, OCD is something that can be managed. You can live the life that you want.

Anxiety Rooted in Trauma

Often, anxiety isn’t primary—it’s a symptom of unprocessed trauma or nervous system dysregulation. If your anxiety started after a difficult experience, assault, accident, or chronic stress, trauma therapy using EMDR and somatic work can address the root cause.

How Therapy Rewires Your Anxiety Response

Traditional talk therapy helps you understand your anxiety, which is a really helpful step but understanding alone rarely changes how your nervous system responds. Real change requires:

  1. Nervous System Stabilization

Before processing anything, we build your capacity to feel safe. You’ll learn to recognize your anxiety patterns, identify your triggers, and develop grounding and regulation tools that work for your body.

  1. Processing the Anxiety (& Its Roots)

Using approaches like EMDR and IFS, we help your brain and body process the anxiety itself and any underlying trauma or core fears driving it. This isn’t about thinking your way out—it’s about your nervous system learning safety.

  1. Rebuilding Confidence & Freedom

As your nervous system stabilizes, you’ll gradually reclaim your life. You’ll face situations you’ve avoided, develop new confidence, and experience the freedom that comes from not being controlled by anxiety.

What Makes My Approach Different

Trauma-Informed & Somatic I understand that anxiety lives in your body, not just your mind. We work with your nervous system directly through somatic techniques, breathing, and body awareness—not just cognitive strategies.

Specialized in Anxiety & Trauma I don’t just treat anxiety as surface-level worry. I look deeper at what your anxiety is protecting you from, what fears drive it, and what nervous system patterns maintain it.

Evidence-Based I use EMDR, IFS (Internal Family Systems), and somatic therapy—all research-backed approaches that work with how your brain and body actually process threat and safety.

Collaborative & Respectful You’re the expert on your own experience. I’m here to guide, support, and provide tools. We work together at your pace, honoring your sensitivity and intelligence.

Online & Accessible You can attend therapy from the safety of your home across Oregon, Washington, Georgia, New Jersey, and Florida. Online therapy can actually feel safer for people with social or health anxiety.

Common Concerns About Starting Therapy for Anxiety<br>

“Will I ever be able to stop my anxiety medication?”

That’s a conversation between you and your prescribing doctor. Therapy and medication can work beautifully together. Many people find that with effective therapy, their medication needs decrease—but that’s not the goal. The goal is your wellbeing. You may have strong feelings about medications. My job is to support your personal choices.

“What if talking about my anxiety makes it worse?”

Good anxiety therapy doesn’t require you to endlessly analyze your worry. In fact, we often move away from talking about anxiety and toward working with your body and nervous system. You’re in control of the pace.

“How long will this take?”

That depends on the type and severity of your anxiety. Some people see significant relief within weeks; deeper healing takes longer. We’ll assess together and set realistic expectations.

“What if I can’t handle a panic attack in session?”

Panic attacks, while terrifying, aren’t dangerous. If you have one in session, we slow down, use grounding techniques, and you’ll actually learn something valuable about your anxiety. This is good therapeutic work.

“I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help.”

Many people find that traditional talk therapy alone doesn’t address anxiety because it doesn’t work with the nervous system. Approaches like EMDR and somatic therapy work differently—and often get better results.

“Will you judge me for my anxious thoughts?”

No. Intrusive thoughts, catastrophizing, obsessive thinking—these are all normal features of anxiety. I’ve heard it all, and I meet all of it with curiosity and compassion.
